When you’re shiny new laundry set arrives at your door by our fantastic delivery team, it's time to do a load of laundry! You throw your towels, swim shorts, socks, and the dirty dish rag into the drum.
Hold on!
Are you sure this is the best way to do your laundry? Maybe it's time to rethink things.
We've compiled our favorite laundry how-tos for a better clean. Learn how to brighten whites and preserve colour while effectively removing odours and stains.
1. Sort
Sorting your laundry by colour, fabric weight, and how soiled the item is will keep your fabrics from fading, wearing out, and getting damaged. Sort like colours together (whites, darks, and lights; denim can be added to the darks or wash a separate denim load). Sort pattered items based on the dominant colour. If you're not sure, take your pick of piles. Hint – wash those precious tights inside out and never with towels – keep those pills away.
The first time you wash a bright coloured item, test it first for colour bleeding.
2. Pretreat
Pretreating stains can sometimes be a pain, but it's necessary for the longevity of fabrics. We recommend trying Excelsior Stain Remover, a powerful stain remover that uses two enzymes to clean and brighten your clothing. For everyday stains, spray the remover on the stain and toss it into the washing machine. When you have a tough stain, you may need to soak the stain with the remover for up to 5 minutes. The Excelsior stain remover, comes inside your first box of the laundry soap.
3. Machine Wash
One of the biggest mistakes we make is washing our towels and sheets with our clothing. The different fabric weights can cause friction and rubbing, damaging your clothing. When you place the different fabric weights together, they won't dry at the same rate, making your drying time longer and more frustrating. We all know that t-shirt that gets balled up in the corner of the fitted sheet!
Wash with like colours and materials only. We recommend using Excelsior Laundry Detergent. Excelsior can whiten, brighten, and soften all in one! All you need is 15ml per load to get a great clean. Excelsior Laundry detergent comes two ways; a 5L box with a free stain remover, or a 3L bottle. For more information on Excelsior products, visit their website. Excelsior laundry products can be purchased in our store (Wiens Furniture, 132 Main St. Niverville, MB).
Whites and towels are best laundered using hot water and a long wash cycle. Wash everyday items on a normal wash cycle using cold or warm water.

4. Dry and Finish
Drying your clothes is just as important as washing them. Throwing them into the dryer on any setting is a habit that won't benefit your fabrics in the long run. The fabric content of your load will determine what type of heat it can stand. Linens, towels, and cotton can be tumble dried on high heat whereas other fabrics need low/medium heat.
If you hate ironing, there are some surefire ways to help you avoid the dreaded task. Pull out your clothes from the dryer while they are damp and hang them to finish drying. The Electrolux Steam Dryer does the work for you by adding moist air which penetrates the clothes, making them soft and wrinkle-free.
