What You Should Know Before Buying a Sectional

by Wiens Furniture & Appliances

Sectionals 101

We love sectionals; it’s no secret. They’re a great alternative to a traditional sofa and loveseat combo as they provide more seating and more space for lounging! In fact, in our Instagram story “This or That” game last week, 76% of those who played the game said they like sectionals more than sofas! If that’s you, keep on reading for our expert tips on what you need to know before buying a sectional!

Configurations

A sectional has two or more individual parts that are fastened together by metal brackets, making it easy to customize the configuration to suit your living space! If we don’t have that configuration in stock, please ask about special-ordering it to get exactly what you want.

Right Arm Facing vs. Left Arm Facing

You may have seen this description when shopping for a sectional. It refers to the side on which the arm is placed when you look directly at the sectional. So if there was an arm on the left-hand side and nothing on the right-hand side, that would be a LAF sofa piece.

Traditional L-shaped sectionals are usually one RAF and one LAF. If you want one side to be longer, you can often order an armless chair or corner wedge to help you do that. If you’re unsure of what will look best in your space, please don’t hesitate to ask one of our excellent sales associates!

Fabric Options

There are many upholstery options for sectionals. From bonded leather to fabric to leather match, we have the perfect upholstery option for you. If you’re unsure, our sales team will help you with your selection. Also, check out this blog post to start learning about the many different upholstery types.

Reclining Sectionals

Some larger sectionals have reclining options, sometimes powered and sometimes not. For a luxurious sectional sofa, look for ones with adjustable lumbar support and headrests. They are great for a family room or theatre room because everyone can find their personal level of comfort. Don’t forget to inquire about built-in consoles, USB charging, and cup holders for added luxury.

As you can tell, we love sectionals! They maximize seating in every space. If you’re interested in buying a sectional for your home, visit us here in Niverville!
