How to Deep Clean Your Mattress in 6 Simple Steps

    by Wiens Furniture & Appliances

A mattress is a serious investment, so you want to make sure it lasts. Learning to deep clean your mattress will increase the longevity of it but also give you peace of mind knowing you're sleeping on a clean surface. If you have pets, allergies, or are a midnight snacker, there's even more reason to get cleaning! The good news is it's not that hard, and we're here to show you how to do it in 6 simple steps!

    1. Wash Your Bedding

Before you clean your mattress, make sure your bedding is clean and sanitized. Don't forget about your mattress cover and pillows (if they're washable!)

    2. Vacuum Your Mattress

Go over the whole surface of the mattress, including the sides.

    3. Spot-Clean with a Stain Remover

Never apply water or cleaning solution directly to your mattress. Instead, spray a cleaning cloth and dab at the stain.

    4. Use Baking Soda

If you can't put your mattress out in the sun and fresh air, baking soda is the next best thing. Sprinkle a layer of baking soda over the entire mattress and leave it for several hours. Baking soda will absorb any moisture and odour on your mattress. The longer you leave it on, the better it will work!

    5. Vacuum Again

Once the baking soda has worked its magic, vacuum it all up! Now would be a good time to vacuum your fabric headboard as well, if you have one.

    6. Protect Your Mattress

Once your mattress is clean and the spot cleaning is dry, cover it with a mattress protector. This will make future cleaning easier and protect your mattress from spills, dirt, etc.
