Choosing the Perfect Coffee Table

by Wiens Furniture & Appliances

A coffee table is an important part of any living room. It's the ultimate spot for drinks, books, remotes, and most likely... feet. There's something about a great coffee table that can send a room to the next level. Follow along for five important coffee table tips!

1. Size and Scale: It's recommended to have approximately 18 inches in between the sofa and coffee table. You want it to be close enough to set down your coffee or book, but far enough away for people to move around it. It's also a good idea to choose a table that is at least half the length of your sofa but no longer than two-thirds your sofa length.

2. Height: A coffee table that is 1-2 inches lower than the sofa is the ideal height.

3. Style: Your sofa and coffee table should compliment each other. Opposites do attract when it comes to design. For example, if you have a slouchy, comfy sofa consider a table that's more refined and slim. If you have a modern, sleek sofa, choose something that's rustic for the ultimate look.

4. Shape: Here are a few "rules to consider" when picking out the perfect shape. Pick a rectangular or oval table if you have a standard sized sofa. For sectionals or a cluster of chairs, consider a square coffee table. A round coffee table is best for small spaces.

5. Details: Everyone needs more storage, especially in a living room. You can get many fantastic coffee tables with lots of storage for pillows, remotes, throw blankets, etc. If you love to eat on the couch (who doesn't?), consider a lift-top table. They're super functional and fun!
