A Simple Mother's Day Breakfast on the Grill

by Wiens Furniture & Appliances

With Mother's Day around the corner, it's a good idea to start planning your breakfast menu for Mom! This year, things are certainly different because of the pandemic but we hope you'll still make time to prepare something delicious for her. After all, she deserves it.

The weather is warming up nicely here in Manitoba, so why not fire up the grill for a delicious, and surprisingly simple breakfast? We love the classic bacon and egg breakfast, and we're sure Mom will too! Here's how we prepare the classics on the grill.

How to Grill Bacon

Prepare your grill for indirect heat, about 350-400 degrees F. If the bacon is over direct heat, set the grill to 350 or lower. Grill the bacon for 15-20 minutes, depending on the thickness of the bacon. It's a good idea to check every so often to see how it's cooking. Make sure to flip it once for even cooking, and for those pretty grill marks! Weber's flavorizer bars protect the burners so there are no flareups, making bacon on the grill easy and delicious!

How to Grill Breakfast Sausages

Grilling breakfast sausages is as easy as making them inside, after all your grill is like your oven in many ways. Cook them according to the package directions, usually around 425-450 degrees, until cooked through.

How to Make Eggs on the Grill

There are a few ways to prepare eggs on the grill. The simplest way is to use a griddle. Make sure to close the lid as much as possible to keep the heat from escaping. If you'd like something a little fancier, try a quiche or a frittata. Yum!

How to Grill Hash Browns

For shredded hash browns, use a griddle or cast iron pan. Make sure to coat it with lots of butter or cooking spray so the potatoes don't stick. The oil also helps with caramelization and adds delicious flavour!

For cubed hash browns, wrap them in foil and seal tightly. Grill, covered, over indirect heat for 10-15 minutes or until tender. Turn once. We highly recommend adding seasonings and butter/oil to the package as well. This helps the hash browns from sticking and also makes them taste way better! You can't go wrong with butter!

For patties, prepare your grill for indirect cooking. Place patties on the grill for 5 minutes. Rotate slightly, and grill for another 5 minutes. Flip and continue cooking for 5-10 more minutes or until golden brown and heated through. You may want to spray them lightly with cooking spray so they don't stick.

How to Grill French Toast

Use your favourite French toast recipe or try this one made specifically for the grill. Prepare the grill for direct cooking over medium-low heat (about 350-400 degrees F). You can also use a griddle or cast iron pan. Brush the cooking grates clean. Soak your bread slices for the recommended time, making sure to let any excess liquid run off when they're ready. Spray both sides with oil. Grill with the lid closed as much as possible, turning once, until firm and golden brown, about 6-8 minutes.

We hope we've inspired you to take your breakfast outside this year. It's amazing what you can all make on your BBQ. Enjoy the lovely Spring weather. And, Happy Mother's Day!
