An open concept floor plan is a popular way to make your home feel bigger, brighter, and more connected. It’s also a great option if you love to entertain! Open concept plans have made their way into many new builds and home renovations, but it does come with some challenges as you may have experienced already. Don’t worry, we’ll show you how to master open concept living in 5 easy steps!
1. Define each space!
Placing an area rug underneath the dining table or a living room arrangement is a great way to create visual separation! We have a ton of great area rugs in-store, so come take a look!
2. Keep the design cohesive!
Keeping the design consistent throughout each “room” will create a calm, cohesive space! There's no need to make everything match, but everything should go together. Choose a similar colour palette or accent colour. Make sure your design style choice is the same, or choose two different styles that complement each other to create some interest.
3. Try a sectional!
Arranging furniture can be one of the biggest challenges when it comes to open concept living. The best way to go about it is to create different living zones. We love sectionals for this reason! Sectionals provide lots of seating, come in a variety of sizes, and are the easiest way to create a seating zone! All you need is the sectional, and maybe an accent chair if you so desire.
4. Create unique corners!
Design distinct areas to serve specific purposes. Create a cozy corner with a reading nook or home office! It’s a great way to give your open concept home an intimate feel.
5. Hide the mess!
With an open concept plan, you see everything all at once! From toys to books to random junk that comes out of nowhere, it can look cluttered fast! Keep it tidy and clean with storage furniture, such as a sideboard or cabinet, storage ottoman, or storage coffee table. Out of sight, out of mind.
